Routines for Newborns

We all know that becoming a first time parent can be overwhelming and scary just due to the fact that it's something new that we're inexperienced in. Gladly there are resources we can go to for help on this such as the internet forums, books, and live advice from families and friends. Things we question after childbirth are based on feeding schedules, sleeping arrangements, and what is safe what isn't. Setting a routine for your baby can help your daily life become easier and it will also help your baby have a sense of rhythm.
Now we know that babies feed a lot so set a feeding schedule for instance, every 2-3 hours you should feed him.

Another good routine is a daily exercise throughout the day for your baby, maybe after feeding in the morning do some play time. Set a time for nap time and in the afternoon give him a bath. Pick a bed time and put the baby to bed at that same time every night to help your baby understand the pattern and over time it'll help make your tasks easier to control. Of course your baby will still be waking up in the middle of the night hungry and it will continue being like that for the first month or so. You can keep track of things by writing times and logging  when you feed him or when he sleeps.

Newborn Baby Tracker® - Round the Clock Childcare Journal, Log BookLogs not only helps with your schedule of feeding and sleeping for your baby but also helps with other additional benefits as well. Sometimes babies can get constipated and diaper logs can help you keep track so you can have information to give when you talk to your pediatrician, it'll help the doctor to know what's exactly going on better. You can either write your information down in a journal or there are online tools you can use to keep track of your baby's schedule such as Trixie Tracker or Baby Insights. There are books that advise to start a routine for your baby as soon as birth and others say start after a week of birth but whatever you feel comfortable with is what you should go with. In your journal you can also include doctor visits, log in every time you took him to the doctor and dates of when he got his shots would help for future references.

When logging in feeding times you should also include any formula switching, how much your baby is given in a time span so that you can keep track if your baby is eating too much or too little. Logging in weight gain is an ideal record to keep track of as well, of course doctors already do that but no harm in doing it ourselves too. It's good to keep you and your little one on a simple easy routine because as they grow up the routine will be added with other activities besides sleeping and eating. Having a routine not only gives you a sense of control but for your baby to adjust to life and help them understand what is going to happen every day.

For them to understand that is to help give them security in their minds and by doing this you can also benefit from having some "me time" for yourself. Just remember to manage your time wisely in order to have every of your baby's needs set and save a little time in between for yourself. If you're forgetful and you want to sneak some sleep in between schedules set alarms or have a spouse be your human alarm.
