Kara's Party Ideas - Space Baby Shower
All of my girlfriends gathered together to brainstorm for our good friends baby shower. We knew that the mother to be would be giving birth to a boy and the shower would need to be themed accordingly. We were all bored with the traditional cowboys and Indian theme ideas. The tables were covered with white fabric linens. The cake was creatively shaped like an unexplored planet. On top of the cake was an imaginary galaxy explorer. Cupcakes we made in the shape of rocket-ships in light blue and green trimmed icing. A large clear glass bowl was placed at the cake table filled with small pastel green and blue round candies. The guests were asked to make a guess as to how many candies were within the jar. The winner received a fragrant candle to take home with them.
The guest gifts consisted of coffee mugs with a rocket ship adhered to the side. The room was filled with a collaboration of bundles of pastel colored balloons with silver streamers to resemble the metal on rocket ships. We ordered a lime cream cake with blue fondant, embellished with round fondant circles in matching pastel colors. The floor of the room was decorated with round rugs in matching colors contributing to a feeling of being in the solar system.
The food was provided in a casual buffet style meal. Chicken, pineapple, and white onion skewers. Asparagus bundles were prepared wrapped in bruschetta with feta cheese lightly toasted inside. Freshly baked sour dough rolls were served hot and fresh out of the oven. A cucumber, mint and lime fresca was served with marshmallows bouncing around the glass like meteors in the sky. A delicate arugula, strawberry, almonds, lightly garnished dressing accented the plate.
For the adults a wine spritzer with fresh cherries was offered. A fun game to play with any baby shower is getting a roll of toilet paper and ask guests to tear off how many squares they think it will take to wrap around the mother to be. The winner of course is given a gift of a light fragrance spray to take home with them.
An added supplement to the festivities was the take a picture option. A cardboard constructed spaceship was strategically placed in the corner of the room not only as decor but also as a photo op. The guests absolutely loved the pictures they took home, which was also a guest gift.
In short, our guests had so much fun with the Space themed baby shower and so did the mother to be.
