We were getting ready to host a delightful first birthday party for our family and friends and we weren't sure where to begin. We found Kara's Party Ideas website and couldn't believe the fresh and vibrant ideas to get us going on our way. We chose the Butterfly themed party planning ideas as they most suited our needs.
We lined the tables with white pastel colored linens and placed a glass butterfly ornament about every four feet. In between the ornaments we placed clear glass votive's with bright pink candles to be lit during the party. The candles were bubblegum scented and filled the room with a lovely aromatic fragrance.
We ordered a vanilla cream cake with white fondant, laced with edible diamonds for an elegant twist. The icing was birthday cake flavored to celebrate the event. Atop the cake was a beautiful crystal butterfly that caught the light just right.
Food is often one the best parts of of a party, so we chose a buffet style meal. The protein was grilled steak coupled with onions, green bell peppers and mushrooms. The steaks were served over homemade tortillas. Several accompaniments included; chopped tomatoes, chives, cheddar cheese, sour cream and guacamole. Healthy portions of tortilla chips and an authentic Mexican salsa were placed on each table for convenience.
The beverage table was delicately covered with brown burlap added a sense of whimsy. A pretty lady wearing butterfly wings handed out pastel colored balloons to the children. A crisp Chardonnay was offered to the adults. All were tasty options and we served pink and orange punch with the cake on the cake table for the non-drinkers.
As a take home gift, we selected a spiritual clear glass butterfly with golden wings inscribed with 'My First Birthday', which could then be hung on each family Christmas tree for years to come. Everyone gathered around the lovely butterfly woman to enjoy a short story about how butterflies come to be as she touched each nose with her glittery wand.
