PARENTING ARTICLE-THE GIFT OF PARENTHOOD

There is truly a lot to be said regarding the ins and outs of life.  Your life is one of the few things that you possess that you can be sure no one else will ever have.  The joys, emotions, fears, pains and wisdom that you experience throughout your life, are all yours.  One of the most memorable and quite emotional moments of life for women is motherhood.

Becoming a mom is one of those moments in life when you can experience almost every possible emotion.   The fact that many of these emotions often show up all at once can be a bit overwhelming.  This often leads many moms or expectant moms to begin to question themselves or their parenting skills.  No need to feel alarmed by your concerns, these are all of the right questions and feelings to have.

But how do you overcome the fear of parenthood?  What can you do to get everything precisely right?  The truth is the one person who can help you answer those questions is probably the last person you thought to ask.  Before I reveal who that person is, there are a few other things you should consider.  Parenting is a gift and it actually has many of the same traits as a gift as well.  The moment a mom finds out she’s expecting, one of her initial thoughts are it doesn’t matter what I have, as long as it’s a healthy baby.  Doesn't that sound a lot like preparing to open a gift?  We often say, “It doesn’t really matter what I get, it’s the thought that counts”.  Well, this is true in both regards and secretly many of us have a thought or two as to what we really want.  Boy, girl, purse or watch it doesn’t hurt to wish right.

The challenges of the gift of motherhood become a bit more involved once the baby actually arrives.  New moms begin to feel overwhelmed and unsure about what to do and when to do it.  They begin to fret that they’re not making their newborn comfortable or happy enough.  You must remember that your little one is having the same thoughts.  They are just as unsure as you are.  The great thing is they’re willing to do things your way.

Your precious gift has the character and spirit of a precious piece of clay.  They yearn to be molded and shaped with guidance and direction that can come only from you.  Your newborn is clinging to your every harmonious melody which sets the tone for the ambiance of their personality.  The gentle gazes that you share with them during feedings are planting a seed of confidence and self worth in them like no other.  Those indecisive moments when they whimper and you vow to not jump in and cuddle them, is giving them the structure they need to develop an independence that will carry them a long way.

So you see there are not many things that you can get wrong when you’re sharing all those special moments with your bundle of joy.  They are truly the ones who hold all of the answers to your questions and have the hidden ability to help you conquer your fears.
